Chinese Lemon Chicken Recipe

Lemon Chicken Recipe

Chinese Lemon Chicken with honey, lemon and garlic sauce.



  • Chicken breast
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of white vinegar
  • ½ cup of corn starch/flour
  • ½ cup vegetable oil 


  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 3 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon finely grated ginger
  • ½ cup chicken stock
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 lemon 
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • Salt
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds 


  1. Mix together the whisked egg, soy sauce and vinegar. Mix in the chicken and then marinate in the fridge for 20 minutes.
  2. Place the flour or cornstarch on a baking tray, pour the chicken and marinate on to the tray and coat the chicken evenly.
  3. Heat oil in wok over a medium to high heat, until it reaches 165°C. Shake off the excess cornstarch and fry the chicken pieces in batches for about 5 minutes, turning half way through until golden and cooked through.
  4. Drain on a paper towel and set to the side. 
  5. Fry the garlic and ginger, then add the stock and whisk in the soy sauce, lemon juice, sugar, honey, and a pinch of salt – until the sugar dissolves.
  6. Whisk the flour into the simmering sauce and stir until thickened. Add in the chicken for 2 minutes. Plate up and garnish.
